Augmented Reality… What it is?
Do you remember the talking portraits in Harry Potter? That's basically the magic that augmented reality brings to life! Imagine students using iPads to make a bulletin board talk and move! Even crazier; imagine kids creating projects like this?!? It's possible, and realistic!!
Augmented reality allows you to use a smart device (iPad, iPhone, tablet, smart phone) to overlay videos and 3-D images to trigger images. Think QR codes but more futuristic! Look at how engaged these students are!!

Aurasma is a teacher and student friendly way to get started with augmented reality. You first need to create a username for your class. After that get creative!!! My first project with Aurasma was for the 100th day of school. I used this in junction with the aging booth, another app on our iPads. First we took pictures and aged ourselves 100 years! Then we wrote about what we will be doing in 100 years. I got some incredibly cute responses. "When I am 100 years old I will feed the birds." and other adorableness! Last we video taped ourselves reading our writing. Then came the trickiest part.. making an Aura! I am putting in this very helpful Aurasma tutorial. For me, I did this starting with my highest reading group and went from there. It worked well and as we know the kids very quickly will start to understand this better than you!! I look forward to sharing the projects I do this year with you! ENJOY! |
I'm going to start with some ways I have used this. The app that I have been successful with is Aurasma.
How can you use it?
